Now here is a truly epic machine from the 1970s! Funky riffs and anthemic rock choruses start playing in your head even if you just look at this guitar. Can you hear them?
Previous owner got this guitar around 20 years ago and didn't get along with the original neck, so that was swapped for something else for him. He then proceeded to play around 600+ gigs with this black Strat, so all the wear you see on the body is genuine stage sweat and tears.
Like most 1970s Stratocasters this is made of chunky piece of ash, that has pretty nice deep resonance and uber-solid feel. Body has been converted to a 4-bolt instead of 3-bolt early on, mainly to increase neck attachment stability. Unlike so many 1970s guitars this one actually has all the original SSS body cavities (no chiseling for humbuckers here!) and the black finish is also original. Total weight of this Strat comes to 4.5 kg, thankfully that extra weight results in a substantial acoustic tone.
Aged plastics really compliment the worn vintage look. Pickup covers are original Noiseless, but you can barely recognize the logo on these. Pickguard has a very "smokey" aged cream colour and is not the original one.
Neck on this Strat was made by well-known Fender builder - "King of Feel" Herbie Gastellum in 1974. Herbie started to shape necks for Fender back in 1961 and retired in 2017, after 56 years and thousands of guitar necks! There is a lovely article about his life with Fender online - have a look.
Big CBS headstock has beautiful lacquer patina and the original logo. Neck has plenty of cosmetic wear on the sides, but no breaks or repairs. It has a very comfy slim C-shape, famous "bullet" truss-rod adjuster, 7.25-inch fretboard radius and vintage frets - all the classic 70s appointments. Thin lacquer feels good and doesn't get sticky. Tuners are new, but these have identical design to their 1970s "parents". Neck has been converted for a 4-bolt mount and the micro-tilt disc has been removed from the heel. Frets are low, but even and the neck is straight as an arrow. Nut was in a sorry state, so it has been upgraded to a nice new TUSQ frictionless nut for improved resonance and tuning stability.
Electric voice is provided by a fantastic set of Fender USA Hot Noiseless pickups, that are usually only available in the Deluxe range of guitars. These have flat pole design (another nice nod to the 1970s) and a true single-coil sound - without any hum! It is quite strange to turn on your favourite tubescreamer - and not get any of that amp groan, just pure tone. Your studio producer will be grateful. However, if you prefer to have a more vintage-spec single-coil set - drop us a line and we will figure something out together.
Wiring is all highest spec USA components with CTS A250K pots, Oak 5-way switch, Orange Drop ceramic capacitor and Switchcraft output jack. Tone 1 controls the neck pickup treble response, Tone 2 is responsible for middle and bridge pickup. You can get a really broad variety of different sounds via the 5-way switch, usable treble roll off and also very gradual volume roll-off (mainly thanks to the overwound nature of the pickups).
Tremolo system is equipped with classic 1970s style bent steel saddles, vintage-correct wide string spacing and steel tremolo block. Tremolo back plate has a nice yellowed patina on it as well.
This instrument received a full professional setup with deep body cleaning, body polish, neck deep clean, full electronics check, truss-rod and action and intonation adjustment. Restringed with Fender 10-46 Nickel-plated steel strings.
This guitar comes with a Fender USA 1990s guitar-shaped moulded plastic hardcase, that has some damage to two of the bottom legs and an "Oliver" stencil, but all catches and latches still work well and hold tight. It will be shipped around UK and EU with Parcelforce courier, safely packed into a sturdy guitar cardboard box. 24h courier service provided to UK customers. Worldwide shipping provided as well.

Please note that although we put our heart and soul and also all our knowledge into every single guitar we sell, a setup is a personal preference and we cannot give any guarantees. However, we try to get the best playability out of every guitar and set them up so you can play both rhythm and lead. We also pull them all apart to clean and check every single component and replace all unreliable parts with new ones, from dodgy pots to the whole wiring, tuners, string trees, nuts and etc. All the work done is described in detail in the listing.
We make sure that every guitar we sell is problem free and take full responsibility for the accuracy of our listing descriptions. All photographs are done by a professional photographer and processed on a calibrated monitor. Some colours might look slightly different on your monitor, but we will always put the official Fender colour name in the listing description, so please study pictures of other guitars with the same colour if you are unsure. We focus on finding great quality guitars and making them reliable and inspiring to play.
