Ah, the Les Paul Special Double Cut. It’s like Gibson took the regular Les Paul, stripped away all the frills, handed you a slab of mahogany with a pair of angry P-90s and said: “Go cause trouble.” And here it is: born January 19th, 2005 at the Nashville plant, back when Gibson USA was still putting out guitars that felt like they wanted to be in a garage band rather than a glass case.
This one wears its thin satin nitro Cherry like a biker jacket that’s seen some fights. Dings, scratches, finish wear, strap pin drama — all cosmetic, all rock ’n’ roll. Structurally? Solid as ever. No headstock breaks, no neck nightmares. Just a straight-up player that’s been living life instead of hanging on a wall.
The mahogany body is light and ultra-resonant, the 60s-style C neck is slim enough to keep things fast but chunky enough to dig in, and that slab rosewood board (12" radius, 42.6mm nut) just screams "chords, bends, and bad decisions." The stock Gibson USA P90s are right where they belong — bright, rude, mid-heavy soapbars that don’t care what pedal you just bought, they’ll still out-attitude it.
Wiring is pure Gibson USA: Switchcraft toggle, A500K pots, ceramic caps. Nothing boutique, nothing trendy, just proper guts. Tuners have been sensibly upgraded to Kluson Revolution tulips, which means you get vintage looks with modern stability — the best of both worlds, basically.
Bridge? Still the OG tune-o-matic, holding strong. Frets? Medium jumbo, untouched and ready for years of abuse. Neck thickness: 20.6mm at the first fret, 23.3mm at the 12th — comfortable, fast, and no baseball bat here.
And yes, you get to pick your case vibe: original Gibson soft case if you’re keeping it street, or a Hiscox hardcase if you want it flight-ready (one latch is loose but it still closes tight). Manual and truss rod tool included, because someone cared enough to keep them.
This isn’t a collector’s museum piece. This is a Gibson that’s been played, earned its scars, and is begging for more. Plug it in, crank it up, and let those P90s make you the loudest thing in the room.
Warning: prolonged use may result in ringing ears, angry neighbours, and riffs you definitely didn’t plan but are keeping anyway.
This instrument received a full professional setup with deep body cleaning, body polish, neck deep clean, lemon oil fretboard treatment, full electronics check, truss-rod and action and intonation adjustment. Restringed with D'addario 10-46 Nickel-plated steel strings.
