The younger brother of the iconic Les Paul - the LP Special - was never keen on all that fancy jewelry like flame maple tops, bindings and gloss finishes. Instead, all of the focus went into sublime sustain, natural body resonance and practicality. No one was ever afraid to take LP Special on tour and use it passionately night after night. No one ever locked their LP Special in a vault. These guitars are meant to be played.
LP Special for sale was born on what we assume was a bright sunny day of the 28th of April 2004 in Nashville, Tennessee. Part of the special limited run of humbucker-equipped LP Specials, it boasts a pair of very potent and rich-sounding Gibson 496T and 490R humbuckers and a 50s style wiring with ceramic disc capacitors. No unnecessary coil-splits, no robot tuners, no PCB boards - nothing to detract from the reliability of this true vintage design.
Mahogany flat-top body is finished in very thin Aged Cherry Red old-school nitrocellulose and has resonance for days. A bit of wear and dings round the edges, but no nasty modifications or repairs. Unlike so many Les Pauls, this one will be very easy on your back during those long gig nights: the whole guitar only weights 3.4 kg (7.4lbs), which is below average for a Strat or Tele and definitely at least half a kilo lighter than your typical Les Paul. No glossy lacquer means no more fingermarks on the finish, that can ruin that perfect stage photograph.
D-shape mahogany neck has a truly gorgeous rosewood fretboard with classic Gibson 12-inch radius. Neck has a modest thickness and is not a baseball bat like some 50s LPs. Lacquer on the back is very nicely worn, frets only have minimal wear and truss-rod works smoothly, allowing for precise action and intonation. No neck repairs on this one! Original Gibson Deluxe tuners with those classic "Tulip" buttons hold tuning well and the nut is nicely cut.
This instrument received a full professional setup with deep body cleaning, body polish, neck deep clean, lemon oil fretboard treatment, full electronics check, truss-rod and action and intonation adjustment. Restringed with D'addario 11-49 Nickel-plated steel strings.
We have another LP Special for sale at the moment, that comes from the same series and is from 2002, but that one has been heavily modified, refinished in gold and reliced - go have a look it you want a more special LP Special :)

Please note that although we put our heart and soul and also all our knowledge into every single guitar we sell, a setup is a personal preference and we cannot give any guarantees. However, we try to get the best playability out of every guitar and set them up so you can play both rhythm and lead. We also pull them all apart to clean and check every single component and replace all unreliable parts with new ones, from dodgy pots to the whole wiring, tuners, string trees, nuts and etc. All the work done is described in detail in the listing.
We make sure that every guitar we sell is problem free and take full responsibility for the accuracy of our listing descriptions. All photographs are done by a professional photographer and processed on a calibrated monitor. Some colours might look slightly different on your monitor, but we will always put the official Fender colour name in the listing description, so please study pictures of other guitars with the same colour if you are unsure. We focus on finding great quality guitars and making them reliable and inspiring to play.
