Mint condition Fender Japan from 1994 - this is what collector's dreams are made of!

In the early 1990s, Jazzmasters were still very much the weird uncle of the Fender family. Too big, too jangly, too complicated, too surfy, too… everything. Which is precisely why Fender Japan barely made any. They weren’t flying off shelves, they weren’t fashionable, and they definitely weren’t being treated with reverence. Most were modded, stripped, hot-rodded, or simply loved to death.

And then there’s this one — a 1994 Fender Japan Vintage Reissue Jazzmaster that appears to have spent the last three decades quietly ignoring all of that.

Finished in a deep, glassy vintage 3-tone sunburst, still wearing its original 3-ply red tortoiseshell pickguard, this guitar has somehow arrived in the present day fully original, unmodified, and bordering on time-capsule condition. The alder body retains its factory S-S routing, shielding and grounding exactly as it left the factory, paired with the correct threaded-saddle bridge and the proper locking Jazzmaster tremolo that actually does what it’s supposed to. At 3.6 kg, it balances beautifully — no neck dive, no dead weight, no funny business.

The neck is exactly what you hope for and rarely get: a medium C-shape maple neck with a smooth gloss back finish, a comfortable 42.1 mm nut width, and a 7.25-inch radius rosewood fretboard that still feels almost new. The 21 vintage frets show no wear at all, which is frankly absurd for a 1994 guitar and tells you everything you need to know about how carefully this one’s been treated. Even the Kluson-style slotted tuners are still present and correct, now wearing just enough gentle patina to prove they’re real.

Electronics? It’s the full, unfiltered Jazzmaster experience. Original Fender Japan Jazzmaster pickups with Alnico V flat pole magnets, untouched wiring, proper lead and rhythm circuits, the original 3-way toggle and 2-way slider switch — no rewiring, no “upgrades”, no mystery solder joints lurking under the guard. It’s all there, exactly as Fender Japan intended, and it sounds every bit as wide, woody, and authoritative as it should.

Condition-wise, it’s almost offensive. There’s only the faintest surface wear and light hardware ageing — the kind you get from decades of careful storage rather than use. No cracks, no breaks, no structural issues, no stories that begin with “at some point someone…”.

For collectors, this is the kind of Jazzmaster that simply does not come up: early ’90s Fender Japan, fully original, untouched, and preserved in near-mint condition from a period when hardly anyone cared enough to keep them this way. For players, it’s a rare chance to experience a Jazzmaster before nostalgia, hype, and modification culture got involved.

They didn’t make many.

Almost none survived like this.

And finding one this clean in 2026 feels less like shopping and more like discovery.

Collector’s dream? Absolutely.

Once-in-a-blue-moon Jazzmaster? Without question.

This instrument received a full professional setup with deep body cleaning, body polish, neck deep clean, lemon oil fretboard treatment, full electronics check, truss-rod and action and intonation adjustment. Restringed with D'addario 10-46 Nickel-plated steel strings.
