Some guitars whisper. Some shout. And then there’s the Fender Japan JM-Champ, which quite literally screams — through its own built-in speaker. Yes, this little mutant Jazzmaster from 1996 doesn’t just plug into your amp, it is its own amp. It’s loud, proud, and ready to embarrass any sensible, well-behaved Strat hanging nearby.
Born in the mid-’90s during Fender Japan’s most experimental phase, the JM-Champ is the lovechild of a Jazzmaster, a Jaguar, and a slightly unhinged practice amp. With its 24-inch scale neck and 3-tone Sunburst gloss finish, it looks like a shrunken offset that’s been raiding the candy drawer — but once you hit that built-in fuzz circuit, it becomes a fuzzed-out firecracker that sounds like it’s been raised on Big Muff and battery acid.
The basswood body hides a 3-inch speaker and a preamp that can either send your signal to an external amp or blast straight from the guitar itself. It’s the ultimate couch guitar — plug in if you want, or just annoy your neighbours straight from the body cavity. The End Rox tremolo bridge and Gotoh tuners keep everything solid, while the upgraded TUSQ nut ensures things stay friction-free when you’re whammying your way through the apocalypse.
The C-shape maple neck (22.3 mm at the first fret, 24.2 mm at the 12th) feels every bit as comfortable as a full-sized Fender, and the rosewood board with a 9.5” radius keeps the playability modern. The single humbucker is all original and ready to bark — especially when that built-in fuzz is engaged.
Cosmetically, it’s worn in all the right places — a few dings and scratches, a bit of scuffing on the tort guard, but nothing that gets in the way of the fun. At just 2.8 kg, it’s light enough to throw around, though probably don’t — they don’t make many of these.
The JM-Champ isn’t a gimmick; it’s proof that Fender Japan occasionally got drunk on creativity and accidentally invented something brilliant. It’s part guitar, part amp, part chaos machine — and all charm.
Plug it in, or don’t. Either way, it’ll make noise. Beautiful, fuzzy, rebellious noise!

Please note that although we put our heart and soul and also all our knowledge into every single guitar we sell, a setup is a personal preference. However, we try to get the best playability out of every guitar and set them up so you can play both rhythm and lead. We also pull them all apart to clean and check every single component and replace all unreliable parts with new ones, from dodgy pots to the whole wiring, tuners, string trees, nuts and etc. All the work done is described in detail in the listing.
We make sure that every guitar we sell is problem free and take full responsibility for the accuracy of our listing descriptions. All photographs are done by a professional photographer and processed on a calibrated monitor. Some colours might look slightly different on your monitor, but we will always put the official Fender colour name in the listing description, so please study pictures of other guitars with the same colour if you are unsure. We focus on finding great quality guitars and making them reliable and inspiring to play.
