This one doesn’t exactly whisper its intentions.
A 2002 Fender Japan Mustang ‘69 Vintage Reissue, finished in Competition Blue with the stripe, which means it walks into the room already playing that riff whether you asked it to or not. It’s unapologetically loud visually, slightly rebellious by design, and carries just enough ‘90s ghost energy to make your amp nervous before you even plug in.
Let’s get this out of the way — yes, it looks like the "Teen Spirit" Mustang. The one everyone associates with scraped chords, offset chaos and not asking permission. But this isn’t a museum piece or a cosplay prop. This is a proper Fender Japan build, which means it’s tight, well-made, and far more reliable than its reputation suggests.
The 24-inch scale and slim 40.3 mm nut width make it ridiculously easy to throw around. The C-shape maple neck sits comfortably in the hand, paired with a vintage 7.25" radius rosewood board and 22 frets that show barely any wear. It feels fast, slightly compact, and encourages the kind of playing where precision is optional but attitude isn’t. Kluson slotted tuners keep things stable, while still looking like they belong on a guitar that’s seen a few questionable decisions.
Under the hood, it’s all classic Mustang weirdness — in a good way. The original Fender Japan Alnico V single coils deliver that bright, wiry, slightly hollow tone that somehow manages to sound both thin and massive depending on how you hit it. The slider switches give you the full Mustang experience: on/off for each pickup and that slightly chaotic phase option that can go from jangly to downright confrontational in a split second. It’s not complicated — it just rewards curiosity.
Hardware is exactly what you want it to be. The Mustang bridge with solid barrel saddles behaves itself, the Dynamic Vibrato is smooth and expressive without falling apart mid-song, and the whole thing weighs in at a very friendly 3.2 kg. The basswood body keeps it resonant and lightweight, with full cavity shielding keeping unwanted noise in check (well… most of it — it’s still a Mustang, not a lab instrument).
Condition-wise, it’s lived just enough. A few small dents, some surface wear, a couple of marks on the headstock — nothing dramatic, nothing structural, nothing that takes away from the experience. If anything, it just looks more convincing doing what it does.
So yes — it has the look.
But more importantly, it has the feel, the sound, and the slightly unhinged personality that made these guitars iconic in the first place.
Plug it in, hit a chord, and try not to play it like you mean it.
This instrument received a full professional setup with deep body cleaning, body polish, neck deep clean, lemon oil fretboard treatment, full electronics check, truss-rod and action and intonation adjustment. Restringed with D'addario 10-46 Nickel-plated steel strings.

Please note that although we put our heart and soul and also all our knowledge into every single guitar we sell, a setup is a personal preference. However, we try to get the best playability out of every guitar and set them up so you can play both rhythm and lead. We also pull them all apart to clean and check every single component and replace all unreliable parts with new ones, from dodgy pots to the whole wiring, tuners, string trees, nuts and etc. All the work done is described in detail in the listing.
We make sure that every guitar we sell is problem free and take full responsibility for the accuracy of our listing descriptions. All photographs are done by a professional photographer and processed on a calibrated monitor. Some colours might look slightly different on your monitor, but we will always put the official Fender colour name in the listing description, so please study pictures of other guitars with the same colour if you are unsure. We focus on finding great quality guitars and making them reliable and inspiring to play.
